Actress Vesna Jevnikar was born on January 22, 1964, in Ljubljana. She spent her childhood in Šmartno pri Litiji and attended school in Kranj, where she graduated from high school in 1982. That same year, she successfully passed the entrance exam to the Ljubljana Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television (AGRFT) to study acting. She completed her studies with the role of Hedda Gabler in Ibsen’s play of the same name and graduated in March 1987. She was introduced to theater and film as a child, appearing in a production of Ivan Cankar’s *The Ward of Our Lady of Mercy* at the then-amateur Prešeren Theater and in the film *Happiness on a Leash*. During her high school years, she was a member of the PG Kranj youth group under the direction of Lojze Domanjko. She made her professional debut at the Ljubljana City Theater (Mestno gledališče ljubljansko) as Betty in Arthur Miller’s *The Crucible* while still a student. During her studies, she collaborated with this theater on several more occasions and appeared in a number of film and television roles. She worked as a freelance artist from October 1987 until June 1990, when she was hired by the Slovenian People’s Theater in Celje. During this time, she performed at various theaters across Slovenia and discovered her love for puppetry. She remained with the Celje theater until the fall of 1997, when she briefly returned to freelance work. In August 1998, she accepted a position at the Prešeren Theater in Kranj, where she remains to this day. She has also collaborated with Radio Slovenia throughout her career, accumulating several hundred radio recordings. She has received numerous film and theater awards for her work.
