After completing II. gimnazija and The Conservatory for Music in Maribor, Ana Svetel (1990) continued her studies at the Department of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology at the University of Ljubljana where she finished bachelor, master and doctoral studies. Currently, she works as a researcher at the same institution. Her first book, poetry collection Lepo in prav (LUD Literatura, 2015) was shortlisted for the Debut of the year Award. In 2019, she published a collection of short stories Dobra družba (LUD Literatura), which was shortilsted for Novo mesto Award. Both of her first books were sold out and reprinted. Nine of the stories from Dobra družba were adapted into a series of radio plays, which had its premiere broadcast on the National radio in 2020. In 2022 Dobra družba was selected for the International Translation Seminar of Slovenian Literature by The Slovenian Association of Literary Translators Her second poetry collection, Marmor (Beletrina, 2022) was shortlisted for the Veronika Award. Ana Svetel contributes poems and prose for the main Slovene literary journals. Her works have been translated into more than ten languages and included in many anthologies. She was hosted at numerous residencies and festivals in Slovenia and abroad. She is also a columnist at Saturday edition of Večer newspaper.
