Vlado Žabot, born in 11. August 1958, is a Slovene writer, editor and journalist. Žabot was born in Šafarsko near Razkrižje in eastern Slovenia and spent his childhood in the province along the Mura River. Owing to the storytelling and singing of local people, that he later perceived as an impotrant spiritual tradition, his works are imbued with themes related to ancient beliefs and set in the dark, marsh environments, where often ruled by terror and fear. He completed his studies in comparative literature and Slovene language at the University of Ljubljana in 1986. He worked for the Delo newspaper from 1987, now he lives and works in Ljubljana as a freelance cultural worker. He won the Prešeren Foundation Award in 1996 for his novel Pastorala and the Kresnik Award for novel Volčje noči in 1997. He was president of the Slovene Writers’ Association for two terms between 2003 and 2007. His works are translated in several languages: English, German, Macedonian and Polish.
