Maja Sever (1964) is an actress, translator, director, editor and organiser. She studied acting at the Academy of Theatre, Film, Radio and Television in Ljubljana. Since 1993 she has been a member of the Slovene National Theater Drama, Ljubljana, where she has played many roles of the classical and contemporary dramatic repertoire in various directorial poetics. In 1999, she won the Borštnik Award for the role of Suzana in Barker’s The Europeans. In 2016, she wrote and directed the children’s play Peter Klepec or How to Become a Real Hero. In addition to her theatre work, she has been translating and dubbing cartoon series for 35 years, mostly for Slovenian National Television, and for the last few years she has also been directing the voice-over of the cartoons. She has translated more than a hundred titles of cartoon series, medium-length or feature-length cartoons, including the popular hits Franklin, Noddy, Peppa the Pig, Bob the Builder, Talking Tom, Ernest et Célestine, Vegesaurs … In 2015, she was awarded The Association of Slovenian Film and Television Translators’ prize for the translation of the animated series The Jungle Book. She also appears on radio, film and television. She is a founding member and vice-president of the Screen Actor’s Guild of Slovenia and the director of the international Kranj Actors’ Film Festival (Krafft), which has presented it’s fourth edition.
