The internationally represented ensemble Phylomena is dedicated to performing vocal and instrumental music from the High Middle Ages. With a flexible members list, it brings together musicians who are not only active in the field of early music, but who also, in addition to their classical education, contribute knowledge and experience from contemporary, traditional, and non-European music. The recreation of various musical traditions from the 12th and 13th centuries is enriched by expertise in musicology, historical linguistics, iconography, and historical anthropology, all with the aim of presenting to the audience a comprehensive image of a time that is very distant from ours in many ways and also surprisingly close in its intensity of emotion and devotion to the beauty of life.
