Boris Kolar

Boris Kolar (b. 1960) holds a university degree in biology. He is an ecologist, a diver and a hunter. He is a member of Slovenian political movement for sustainable development (TRS) and the developer of numerous ecology initiatives. He regularly writes columns for the daily newspaper Večer.
His vast area of expertise includes measurement of odour emmisions and immisions. He works as the head of the Centre for Risk Assessment of Chemicals with Lab at the Institute of Public Health Maribor. He has got more than twenty years of professional experience in ecotoxicology analysis, wildlife population monitoring and environmental technologies.
He is an expert member in matters of environmental risk assessment of veterinary medicine products and the chair of environmental risk assessment working party at the European Medicines Agency (EMA) in London. He participated in the preparation of the European directive which set limit values for the substances in surface waters (at the time of Slovenian presidency of the Council of EU).
He has also been interested in the fields of film and literature:
– Hčeri morja (1993), documentary (RTV Slovenija), concept, script, co-producer.
– The Emerald River / Smaragdna Reka (1997), documentary (ORF, BBC; Science&Vision, RTV), concept, co-producer – Rotterdam (1998) silver prize for best documentary.
– Iqball Hotel, (2009) novel, nominated for Kresnik Prize, 2010
