Lara Božak was born in 1999 in Celje. After finishing primary school in Rogatec and graduating from Gimnazija Celje – Center, she continued her studies studying humanistic studies in Ljubljana, where she is currently pursuing a degree in political philosophy.
Her creative work moves between the fields of music and poetry. Within a guitar-vocal duo she explores the intersection of singer-songwriter music and jazz. She started to write poetry more seriously during her studies. Her poems have been published in various literary magazines, portals and anthologies, such as Mentor, Spirala, Vrabec Anarchist, Koridor – Križišča umetnosti, Locutio, in the almanac of young poets bog si ga drka na nas (Literary Society IA) and have been presented in the radio programme Literary Nocturne (RTV Slovenia, ARS).
In September 2023, she released her literary debut Z luknjami v prepihu (With holes in the draught), published by publishing house Črna skrinjica (“Black Box”). The book was nominated for the prize of Best Literary Debut at the 38th Slovenian Book Fair. It was edited by Dejan Koban and the accompanying text was written by Barbara Korun.
She performs at literary evenings and festivals and works as an editor with the publishing house Črna skrinjica. She likes to intertwine her recitals with free concepts of improvised sound.
